Tetrahymena Phagosome Proteome
This page presents a listing of proteins identified in an analysis of the Tetrahymena thermophila phagosome proteome by mass spectrometry (Jacobs, M.E., et al., 2006. Eukaryot. Cell 5:1990-2000) that has been carried out by the Klobutcher lab in collaboration with Centre for Research in Mass Spectrometry at York University that is headed by Dr. K. W. Michael Siu. The proteins are grouped into: 1. Strong Candidates with Homologs of Known Function in Other Organisms; 2. Strong Candidates with Unknown Function; 3. Less Well Supported Candidates (single peptide identified in a single analysis, but phagosome-associated in other organisms); and 4. Likely Contaminants. Each entry is linked to an information page that provides the amino acid sequence of the protein and coding DNA sequence. The protein/gene sequence information is based primarily on the preliminary annotation of the Tetrahymena macronuclear genome sequence (Eisen, J. A., et al., 2006. PLoS Biol. 4: e286), but we have refined some of the gene predictions based on either cDNA/EST data or through comparisons to homologous proteins in other organisms. Each entry also includes the sequence(s) of the peptides identified in the MS analyses, information regarding whether the protein has been identified in the phagosome proteome of other organisms or if it is listed as a component of phagosomes or lytic vacuoles in the GO database, and relevant Tetrahymena literature. Information on mutant phenotypes and sub-cellular location is available in the literature for some proteins but it has not yet been entered on this web site.
